  • This painting is inspired in part by Hirémy-Hirschl’s “The Souls of Acheron” with several nods to the various anguished figures in the original. In my painting the main figure wades through grasping souls he stashed in a shallow lake. This is meant to feel like a forgotten place, a secluded watery crypt where the only beauty is in the flowering plants above the damned.

  • Painting done for brutal death metal band Teratanthropos. I tried to be more loose with this one and let the ideas flow instead of rigidly following the initial sketch. Inspiration came from classical, old masters and the occult.

Sacrificial Liturgy

Archival XG-01

  • The concept for this painting started out as a baroque gateway to hell made out of fused bodies. I added in the massive demonic being later on to give more of a focus. I wanted it to look like some end boss in Dark Souls was emerging from the depths to pummel you into the ground.

I approached the painting in sections building on the imprimatura with layers. I learned a lot of new techniques about rendering architecture and painting small objects. While all the detailing was a grueling process the end result was worth it.

  • The painting is designed to question the power of icons when used to subjugate and cast down others in the name of one’s religion. The Virgin Mary is shown here sending searing beams of inverted holy light into demons as they beg for mercy. Through this act, the Virgin Mary becomes unclean. The serpent of temptation sinking its teeth in and her forehead bathed in the blood of the wretched.

Synestia

Maleficium

Archival SY-01

  • Painting for Symphonic Deathcore project Synestia’s debut album “Maleficium.” The cover art is inspired by the storyline of the Netflix adaptation of Castlevania. The husband finds his wife dead by unknown cause in a bleak garden. Rage clouds his face as he holds the body of his beloved close, this moment a catalyst for the story to come. The singles for “Burial Hymn” and “Death Magic” contain various motifs that allude to what happens before and after.

  • Album Artwork 2022

This piece is for the mad lads in Crown Magnetar’s upcoming release “Alone In Death.” This is also the first project under Unique Leader Records that I had a hand in all the art direction and product design. So look forward to some neat new pre-order options when that drops. The artwork is a continuation of motifs from “The Codex of Flesh” with a portrait of a demonic figure sacrificing a lamb. The composition was inspired by Pietà paintings (the virgin Mary supporting the body of Christ).

Snake Father

The Concepts of Torture

Archival SF-01

  • Here is the cover for Texas based deathcore act Snake Father upcoming EP, “The Concepts of Torture.” The band had this really neat narrative that goes along with the album. John described it to me as a cult that sends its followers to a camp up in the mountains, never to return as they commit religious suicide off the mountain peak. I wanted to capture the ritualistic moment of “true enlightenment” as the cult leader sends the disciple off the mountain top. At first glance the beauty and grace of the figures dive distracts from the horror in the surroundings. Until you take it all in and realize what’s about to occur.

  • The concept was to portray a figure caught up in a massive sandstorm with a distant light shining upon it. Looking back, it's very representative of the chaos and oppression felt during that time when the pandemic was it's peak. I heard the phrase "light at the end of the tunnel" quite a bit during those times and I definitely think that subconsciously influenced this painting. I was also greatly inspired by the works of John Martin and JMW Turner. Especially the powerful brushstrokes and energy of "The Fifth Plague of Egypt."

The Eating Cave

Ingurgitate

Archival TEC - 01

  • Artwork for technical death metal project The Eating Cave album “Ingurgitate.” The concept is a play off of the bands name and title with this behemoth corpse being used as an “eating cave” by a cannibal. Ironic twist as the cannibal is being consumed as it consumes its prey. The artwork is also inspired by one of my favorite JMW Turner paintings (incomplete) “Death on a Pale Horse.”
