“Step Into The Light” shows us the will to survive and potential for hope. “Failure Will Follow” shows us death and the destruction of the natural order. Two diverging paths meant to represent humanity's potential to persevere and transcend or destroy itself.
The artwork concept for both of these covers came together through discussions Vincent and I had way back in the beginning of 2022. The general idea was to have two albums, one a metaphor for human potential and the other for human destruction. The deer is a symbol for the rotting planet, the birds symbolizing humanity and the maggots represent the earth fighting back (disease, global warming etc). We take from its degrading corpse and build in it’s festering guts while the next generation are slowly consumed by the maggots.

The concept behind this artwork is having insomnia and trying to escape a hostile environment through sleep. There are several motifs of sleep and dreams placed throughout the painting. The figure is a depiction of Hypnos, the Greek god of sleep who is represented with a wing on the side of his head. The asp is symbolic to the suicide of Cleopatra and brings on a sleepiness without pain before death. The chalice and nightingale comes from the Greek Cyranides, invoking a ritual of placing the eyes and heart around a person in bed to keep them awake. Dissolving into a drink will cause the victim to never sleep and thus die. Together these motifs tell a story of an immortal sleep god cursed to eternal wakefulness, attempting to sleep through poison while the world burns around them.

The artwork was inspired by old masters paintings of witches and the occult. Works by Luis Ricardo Falero, Salvator Rosa and Goya were all referenced when creating this piece. I really enjoyed rendering out the twisting forms and creating an evil dark composition of demons and witches.

The design's aesthetics are inspired by ancient monograms from the dark ages. I referenced quite a few from a neat book of signs from the 1950’s that I found at a local curiosities shop. Each sigil is the members name rewritten and hidden with various motifs into an intricate design. The motifs are based around characteristics I associate with each member. The combined version shows the complexities of each member coming together to form Lorna Shore. From left to right it goes Will, Michael, Adam, Austin and Andrew.
The sigils were used in the album layout and painted on the band's stage gear by Eye of Shiva clothing.

A lot went into this release from the photography to the design to the art itself. Devin and I started brainstorming concepts for this artwork way back in 2020. We knew from the start that we wanted something dark in a bleak setting featuring some obscure artifact or figure. Devin showed me this character from Hellblade and it instantly clicked with the concept we had in mind. I came up with the idea of the figure being a shaman that harvested worms off of dead crows, a "Worm Shepherd" if you will.

I got to work with Soreption back in 2018 when they were signed to Sumerian for their release “Monument of the End.” That release was one of my first bigger projects, so getting to work with them 4 years later was a real pleasure. “Jord” is Swedish for soil, so in this piece we have a depiction of a great machine slowly altering the natural world around it, seeping into the trees, the air and the soil. This is a continuation of the artwork from “Monument of the End” showing what can be after a cataclysmic event. While “Monument of the End” showed a desolate apocalyptic landscape, “Jord” is a lush eden covering the lifeless red sands.

One of my favorite things about this project was designing the sigils and album layout for each release. Each sigil adds onto the previous one as the story progresses. The layout background begins as a tattered texture from the figures robe and slowly begins to burn away to reveal foreboding aeons beneath. An allusion to the events happening on each new release.
Starting with “Dawn of Corruption” and ending with "Aeons of Oblivion," these covers were a homage to the soul-inspired storyline that Alan wrote. I had a blast bringing the story to life with the covers, symbology and layout design.
